The Carolina Mantis (Stagmomantis carolina) is a species of mantis native to the Southeastern, United States. At a length of around 2.5" at maturation, it is a relatively small species of mantis which is typically mottled brown or gray in coloration. This image of a relatively young individual and features green legs. The Carolina mantis is the state insect of South Carolina.
