Freshwater crayfish, Cambarellus sp., Middle Saluda River, Mari

Most crayfish found within the Southern Appalachians exhibit a brown, or rusty coloration. However this particular individual, found in the middle saluda river in Marietta, South Carolina, was particularly bright red in coloration. It was found walking shallow pools and a root systems along the banks of the river.
