Five Lined Skinks ( Eumeces fasciatus ) are commonly found in warmer areas throughout the eastern United States. Some people mistakenly call them Scorpions and believe that they are poisonous, which isn't true. This individual is shown sunning itself on an overturned Bald Cypress Tree (Taxodium distichum) in the Francis Beidler Forest and Four Hole Swamp near Charleston, South Carolina.
