Carpets of Yellow Trout Lilies (Erythronium americanum) emerge in rich woodlands across eastern North America each spring. The named Trout Lily refers to their spotted leaves, which are reminiscent of scales on a trout. They are also commonly referred to as Dogtooth Violets because of the shape of their corm.
