Francis Beidler Forest, Four Hole Swamp, Harleyville, SC (Ramsar Wetland of International Importance)

The Four Holes swamp is an 45,000 acre blackwater system near Charleston, SC. In 2008, the Francis Beidler Forest (15,000 acres owned by Audubon) was given the prestigious designation of Ramsar Wetland of Internation Importance. The majority of the Bald Cypresses in this wetland are estimated to be around 1,000 years old.
